General Information

ATLAS data processing will make use of a distributed infrastructure of relational databases for access to various types of non-event data and event metadata. Distribution, replication, and synchronization of these databases, which are likely to employ more than one database technology (e.g. Oracle in larger centers and MySQL in smaller settings and for smaller applications), must be supported according to the needs of the various database service client applications.

Activities and people

ATLAS will favor common LHC-wide solutions and will work with the LCG and the other experiments to define and implement common solutions. ATLAS (David Malon) initiated a distributed database deployment project in the LCG.

  1. System design and scalability
  2. Access control, grid-enabled user authorization, elimination of clear-text passwords
  3. Data exchange protocols, tools, procedures
  4. Browsing and monitoring tools
  5. Evaluation of new database server tools and technologies; validation of new versions
People and their expressed interests: Former members of the Database Services Design and Integration team: Yu. Shapiro
