General Layout: of the laser distribution system is shown here (tiff format).
Quantity:
Distribution connectors: For distribution of light from one fiber to the PMTs in each girder side.
Two 1-to-48 fibers per Barrel module (one for each girder side); total: 2x64=128 + 6 spares. The lengths of the output fibers (the fibers that go from the connector to the PMT) are here, and also some information about its placement.
Two 1-to-17 fibers per EB module (one for each girder side); total: 2x64x2=256 + 10 spares. The lengths of the output fibers (the fibers that go from the connector to the PMT) are here, and also some information about its placement.
Adjustable and fixed 1-to-1 connectors : One of each for each distribution connector: 128+256=384+16 spares
Short clear fibers : Fibers to connect the distribution connectors to the PMTs.
Barrel: 45 fibers for each
girder side, with different lengths, from 0.5m to 6m.
Sub-Total=45x(0.5+6)/2=146m. Total=146mx2x64=18.72km.
Decision to be taken soon!
In the following report you can read about the decision process for the short clear fibers length, timing and routing.
Extended Barrel: The same as
before but with 16 fibers.
Sub-total=16x(0.5+3.4)/2=31.2m.
Total=31.2mx2x64x2=8.0km
Total (B+EB) 18.7+8=26.7 + 10% spare fibers = 29 km.
Note: a few of the output fibers of the distribution connectors are spares, which can be used when a fiber can be accidentally broken during installation.
Procurement: 30km of clear fibers (type GH4001 with 1mm diameter and 2.2mm-diameter black light tight cover) procured with the order CA 1159244 from:

Delivered to CERN, in 500m spools, in May 1999, and to Coimbra in June 1999. The cost was 0.25 Euros/m.
Long clear
fibers: 80m long, to connect the adjustable connectors
in the optical patch panel in the electronic cavern to the fixed
one-to-one fiber connector close to the module.
One for each
fixed one-to-one connector- 80mx384= 30.72km + 10% spare fiber =
34km
Patch panel: Panel to install the 400 adjustable connectors in the electronic cavern. It includes the light distribution system from a liquid optical light guide to the 400 adjustable connectors.
Schedule for delivery: The first two bundles of calibration fibers plus connectors, to place inside the girders, were delivered to CERN (2 bundles for the Barrel) in the 26th July 1999. Two other bundles were delivered early September of 1999. For Barcelona and ANL/MSU (for the Extended Barrel) they wre prepared and tested (4 for each site), and were delivered early in September 1999 ( Schedule in HTML). Two bundles are needed for each module (Barrel or Extended Barrel), one for each girder side. In the next topic it can be found the detailed schedule of production and delivery of distribution connectors.
NEW: The distribution connector (+bundle of fibers) delivery dates and places.
NEW: The distribution connectors change of the diffusing tubes is described here.
Quality Control: The distribution connectors Quality Control description and data sheets are here.
Test Beam Setup: The laser distribution setup for the test beam is described here.
